Marie E. Harwood Hinsdale, NY-- Marie E. Harwood of the Olean Hinsdale Rd. died Saturday (April 24, 2004) in her home. Born January 1, 1920 in Brookville, PA she was the daughter of Jordan and Ida Shilling Neel. On November 5, 1942 in Bradford, PA she married Harold E. Harwood, Sr. who predeceased her September 14, 1996. Mrs. Harwood was a former resident of Bradford, PA and Farmersville and had resided in Hinsdale since the 1940’s. She had first worked for Rhodes Bakery in Hinsdale and later for Acme Electric Co. in Allegany and Cuba prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Hinsdale United Methodist Church and was a 50 year member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was also a member of the Hinsdale Guys and Gals, the Fay Hollow Sunshine Club and she volunteered for the annual Hinsdale Heritage Days. Surviving are two sons Doug (Judy) Harwood of Hinsdale and Harold E. (Linda) Harwood, Jr. of Olean; one daughter Wilma (Eugene) Gilstrap of St. Augostine, FL; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; two sisters Betty Fulton and Nancy Neel, both of Brookville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by one brother William Neel and three sisters Margret Vasbinder, Laura Witherow and Estella Delores Whitmore. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (April 27, 2004) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Carl Schultz, pastor of Hinsdale United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
