Jean (Redding) Bassano “Mimi” Allegany, NY Jean (Redding) Bassano of 2201 St. Christopher Dr., Allegany, passed away Friday (February 4, 2022) in the comfort of her home with her two loving children by her side. Born December 28, 1929 in Dansville, she was the daughter of Daniel and Aleine Redding. On February 1, 1958 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean, she married Anthony “Tony” Bassano; they had been married 57 years. Jean moved to Olean in 1932. She attended St. Mary of the Angels Elementary school and graduated from Olean High School in 1947. After high school, she attended St. Joseph’s School for Nursing in Elmira. Jean worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Reach for a number of years. She graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She worked for BOCES as a teaching assistant until retirement in 1991. Jean loved keeping in touch with her many friends and family. She was sure to send cards which included a special note for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. She organized twice a year luncheons for her school friends for 30 years; she was a proud member of the Red Hat Society for 8 years; and later was the coordinator of the Olean area Parkinson’s support group. Her many interests included genealogy, stamp and coin collecting, needle work and embroidery. Jean had a love of butterflies, as her home was adorned with butterfly keepsakes of all kinds. This summer when you see a butterfly fluttering by, take a moment and think of Jean.
