Obituary of Shirley A. Papasergi

Shirley A. Papasergi Allegany, NY Shirley A. Papasergi, 86, of Allegany, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021, surrounded and comforted by the presence of her loving children and grandchildren. Born June 5, 1935 in Allegany, she was the daughter of Eugene and Irene Lippert Foster. On June 9, 1956 at St. Bonaventure Church, she married William G. “Bill” Papasergi who predeceased her March 1, 2018. Shirley received her primary education at a country schoolhouse on the Four Mile Road in Allegany and later graduated from Allegany Central School, class of 1952. She worked for several businesses over the years, including K-Bar Cutlery, the DeSoto Motel, and Ried’s Food Barn in Allegany. She was devoted to her catholic faith and was a longtime member of St. Bonaventure Church where she was an active parishioner and a volunteer at The Bridge. She was also a 63-year member of the Allegany Engine Co. Auxiliary, was a member of the Allegany American Legion Auxiliary, the Sixty-Plus Club, and the Red Hat Society. She always stayed active and enjoyed the company of her close friends with whom she socialized with, especially playing cards. At home, she loved being with her family and she enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was famous for her fudge-making skills and was often called upon to provide the special treat for many occasions. Surviving are 5 children Maria Mousaw of Columbia, SC, William (Sherry) Papasergi, Dominic (Cheryl) Papasergi, Michael (Tammy) Papasergi and Irene (Sherm) Smith, all of Allegany; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 sister and lifelong best friend, Irene Pierce of Allegany; 2 brothers Carl (Gloria) Foster and Ed (Nancy) Foster, both of Allegany and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her 2 very close friends Marg Stady (and her joke of the day) and Betty Lou Amore, both of Allegany. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 7 brothers and 3 sisters, Herman Foster, Lawrence Foster, Sophia Wolf, Patricia Foster, Eugene Foster, Harold “Joe” Foster, Stephen Foster, Robert Foster, Kenneth Foster and Kathleen Scull. She was also predeceased by her dear friend and cousin Diana Rzepka. Friends are invited to a memorial visitation on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at St. Bonaventure Church, 95 W. Main St., Allegany from 11am until 2pm. A Mass of Christian Burial, with cremated remains, will begin at 2pm. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Bonaventure “Bridge”, 95 E.
