Wynona E. "Nonie" Mele
Fort Mill, SC Wynona E. 'Nonie" Mele, a former area resident, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday (December 14, 2019).
Born May 15, 1927 in Hinsdale she was the daughter of William S. and Nina A. Peterson Holdridge. On November 15, 1945 in Olean she married Nicholas F. Mele who predeceased her February 27, 1988.
Mrs. Mele was a homemaker all of her life and enjoyed raising her family of 7 children. Over the years she also lived in Elmira, Waverly and Hinsdale. She always kept busy and enjoyed attending church regularly. She also loved to read, crochet, and do word search puzzles.
Surviving are 5 children Theresa (Michael) Hughes of Clover, SC, Nicholas (Sharon) Mele of Elmira, Mary (Theodore) Wheaton of Deltona, FL, John Mele of Elmira and Karl Mele of Fort Mill, SC; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 2 sons David Mele and Joseph Mele; 2 brothers Duane Holdridge and Robert Holdridge and 2 sisters Katherine Lute and Elizabeth Worley.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 5-8pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Visitation will continue on Thursday (December 19, 2019) from noon until 1pm at the funeral home, at which time a funeral service will be held. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor of St. Bonaventure Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
