Allegany, NY-- Hester M. Hirsch, recently of Eden Heights, formerly of Allegany died Saturday (September 4, 2004) in The Waters of Allegany.
Born July 8, 1914 in Arcade, NY she was the daughter of Harry and Hazel Cole Hamilton. On December 31, 1933 in Allegany she married Francis J. Hirsch who predeceased her January 29, 1987.
Mrs. Hirsch was a longtime resident of Allegany and had been employed for many years at the former Leo’s Market in Allegany. She belonged to the First Baptist Church in Olean where she was recently honored for 75 years of membership. She enjoyed bowling and she had been a volunteer for the Olean General Hospital, the St. Francis Hospital and the Allegany Public Library. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Surviving are four daughters Kay Screen of Rumson, NJ, Janet (Joseph) Farleo of Acworth, GA, Gayle (Timothy) Finlan of Thompson Station, TN and Cheryl (Donald) Giardini of Allegany; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son Lawrence Hirsch in 1947; a great granddaughter Emily Pikulski and three sisters Frances Geyer, Beverly Greabell and Phyllis Riley.
Friends will be received today from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (September 7, 2004) at 1:00pm in the First Baptist Church in Olean. Rev. Dan !McDowell, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
