Robert W. Wenke "gentle man" Olean, NY-- Robert W. Wenke of 1406 Irving Parkway died Tuesday (September 14, 2004) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness. Born November 17, 1922 in Olean, NY he was the son of Peter and Mary A. Nolder Wenke. On June 26, 1954 at St. John’s Church in Olean he married Kathleen T. Corson who predeceased him November 24, 1981. Mr. Wenke was a 1941 graduate of Olean High School and had resided in Olean all of his life. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946. He had worked since 1946 for the former !VanderHorst Corp in Olean as a machinist, retiring in 1985 after 39 years of employment. Mr. Wenke was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and was a past member of the Hinsdale Horseshoe League. He also served as a volunteer for ten years for Meals on Wheels. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and camp life. Surviving are three sons Robert J. (Diane) Wenke and Matthew R. (Mary) Wenke, both of Olean and Anthony J. (Cheryl) Wenke of Delevan; two daughters Molly Lou (David) Grant of Invershin, Scotland and Jennifer Augostini of Little Genesee; 14 grandchildren; two brothers Paul Wenke and Loren (Chub) Wenke, both of Olean and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by three brothers John Wenke, William Wenke and Steven Wenke and one sister Patricia Regin. Friends will be received on Thursday from 7-9pm and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Saturday (September 18, 2004) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Alzheimers Association of WNY 2805 Wehrle Dr. Ste 6 Williamsville, NY 14221-7380.
