Obituary of Cornelia C. Steiger

Cornelia C. "Connie" Steiger Allegany, NY-- Cornelia C. "Connie" Steiger of 224 E. Main St. died peacefully Tuesday (September 14, 2004) in her home after a short illness. Born May 30, 1921 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of James and Alice Reitz Spears. She was married to Robert L. Steiger who predeceased her June 11, 1970. Mrs. Steiger graduated from Olean High School and resided in Allegany most of her life. She had worked for many businesses in the Olean area, most recently for Homecare and Hospice and also for the Service Stores. She was a member of the Allegany American Legion Auxiliary and was currently serving on the Village of Allegany Board of Appeals. She enjoyed cooking, planting flowers, traveling and working in and around her home. Surviving are six children Robert (Judy) Steiger of Simi Valley, CA, Susan (A.J.) Maleski and Judy (Paul) Mahar, both of Olean, Kathleen Jackson of West Palm Beach, FL, Karen (Ben) Reynolds of Portville and Joel (Valencia) Steiger of Plantation, FL; 26 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; a brother James (Betty) Spears of Olean and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a sister Gertrude Kent. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Saturday (September 18, 2004) at 1:00pm in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Rev. Paula Roulette, pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church in Portville will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
