"beloved wife, mother and grandmother"
Allegany, NY-- Doris M. Billings of 124 N. First St. died suddenly Tuesday (September 21, 2004) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Olean Campus.
Born April 12, 1929 in Attica, NY she was the daughter of Willis Boice and Marguerite Irene Putnam Case. On September 29, 1945 in Allegany, NY she married Gordon L. Billings who survives.
Mrs. Billings was a resident of Allegany since 1945 and first worked for the former Kresge’s Store and W. T. Grant Co. in Olean. She later worked as a nurse’s aide at the former St. Francis Hospital, Allegany Nursing Home and Valley View Manor. She retired after working as a private duty care provider.
She was a longtime member of the Five Mile Baptist Church and she enjoyed quilting, crafting, sewing and cooking. She also made and sold wedding cakes professionally.
Surviving besides her husband are four children; Nancy A. (Stephen B.) Chesebro of Allegany, James D. (Debra) Billings of Allegany, Diane M. (Stephen L.) Brown of Hornell and Denise L. (Thomas) Gabler of Allegany; eleven grandchildren Stephen K. (Carrie) Chesebro, Jennifer (Scott) Schultz, Jeff (Molly) Billings, Jason Billings, Jill Billings, Kris Brown, Kurk (Stacie) Brown, Kari (Alan) Fritzal, Kraig Brown, Kyle (Abby) Gabler and Kolby Gabler; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers Clinton Case, Paul Case and Stewart Case.
Friends will be received today from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Visitation will continue on Friday (September 24, 2004) at the Five Mile Baptist Church, Allegany from 1:00pm until time of services at 2:00pm. Rev. James Mitchell, pastor, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Roy Kinney and Rev. Gary Briggs. Burial will be in Five Mile Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Five Mile Baptist Church or to the Allegany Fire Department.
