Marion E. Elling
Allegany, NY Marion E. Elling, formerly of S. Nine Mile Rd. passed away Saturday (May 27, 2017) at The Pines of Olean.
Born July 19, 1938 in Olean she was the daughter of Merle and Virginia Page Klice. On February 9, 1957 she married James R. Elling who predeceased her January 29, 2009 after 52 years of marriage.
Mrs. Elling was a 1956 graduate of Allegany Central School and soon after was employed as a secretary at Clark Bros.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, having been active with the Martha's and also its Altar and Rosary Society. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and for the St. Bonaventure Quick Arts Center as a gallery sitter and theater volunteer. Additionally, she served as corresponding secretary for the Allegany Area Historical Association for several years.
Mrs. Elling most enjoyed raising her family and the company surrounding family gatherings. She also liked reading, sewing, puzzles, country music, traveling and growing a flower garden.
Surviving are 1 son David (Kim) Elling of Allegany; 3 daughters Debbie (John) Freeman of Cuba, Jeanne (Leonard) Campanella of Greenwood and Tina Elling-Smith of Allegany; 9 grandchildren Justin Freeman of Rochester, Kristie (Kevin) Flower of Pittsville, MD, Andrew (Cara) Freeman of Cuba, Adam Freeman, Eric Campanella of Buffalo; Stacy (Anthony)Campanella of Greenwood, Tracy Smith of Allegany, Jeremy (Dawn) Elling of Hinsdale and Tim Elling of Allegany; 5 great grandsons Nathan Fish, Aaden Freeman, Jack Flower, Colton Freeman and Jack Elling; 1 great granddaughter Jillian Flower; 1 sister Barbara Sankevicus of Portville and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a sister Carol O'Connor and an infant brother and sister.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Thursday (June 1, 2017) beginning with a prayer service at 9am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
