Obituary of Kathryn M. Severtson
Allegany, NY Kathryn M. "Kay" Severtson of 1491 Four Mile Rd. passed away peacefully Saturday (May 13, 2017) at The Pines Nursing Home in Olean.
Born June 19, 1922 in Jamestown she was the daughter of Guy and Ana Johnson Truax. On June 24, 1950 at Sacred Heart Rectory in Lakewood she married Elmer Severtson who predeceased her June 5, 2009.
Kay graduated from Lakewood High School and after her marriage and move to Allegany she worked along with her husband on the dairy farm. They operated Severtson Eggs and Dairy from 1962 to 1984.
She was an active member of St. Bonaventure Church and its Altar Society as well as Catholic Daughters of America. She helped the parish in so many ways, most recently as a volunteer for The Bridge Thrift Shop. Her desire to help others led to her 27 years of volunteering at the former St. Francis Hospital. Upon its closure she was active with the Olean General Hospital Auxiliary. She helped many years with Homecare and Hospice and she and her husband were 15-year volunteers with Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are 2 sons Jerry (Barbara) Severtson and James (Sally) Severtson, both of Allegany; 5 grandchildren Cari Severtson, Steve Severtson, Naomi Watt, Lynda Thomas and Raellen Watt; 15 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; 1 sister Norine Truax, RSM of Kenmore and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 4 sisters Virginia Johnson, Helen Vail, Mary Lou Regan and Jane Tofany.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 3-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (May 17, 2017) beginning with a prayer service at 9am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
