Obituary of Irene L. Clemons

Irene L. Clemons “Ma” Olean, NY Irene L. Clemons, of 335 W. Riverside Dr., passed away peacefully Tuesday (December 20, 2016) in her home. Born June 18, 1925 in Olean she was the daughter of Harry and Ruth Peterson Gayton. On June 9, 1942 in Olean she married Robert W. Clemons who predeceased her February 13, 1998. Mrs. Clemons was a lifelong Olean resident, attended Olean schools, and enjoyed and excelled at being a homemaker. Known affectionately as “Ma” Clemons to many, she was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She also was like family to her many friends and neighbors and everyone loved spending “Sundays on the hill” at her home. Surviving are 5 children Carolyn (Louis) Fuller of Olean, Irene “Robin” (Lester) Robinson of Cincinnati, OH, Arthur Clemons and Mark Clemons, both of Olean and Lori Clemons of Buffalo; over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 1 sister Gladys Gayton of Olean; 1 brother William “Bill” Gayton of Oberlin, OH and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 2 sons Robert W. Clemons and Carl Clemons; a daughter Ruth Shorter; 5 brothers John Gayton, Harry Gayton, Gordon Gayton, Arthur “Bugs” Gayton and Adrian Gayton and 1 sister Harriet Gayton. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4-6pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (December 28, 2016) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Bishop Marion Richey will officiate. Burial will be next to her husband in Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor.
