Olean- Philip D. VanDixon of 1247 Brook Street, Olean, died Sunday (December 18, 2016) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born September 8, 1942 in Olean, he was the son of Glenn and Clara Zandi VanDixon. On March 13, 1962 in Wynne, Arkansas, he married Edith Waymire, who survives.
Mr. VanDixon was a graduate of Olean High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1961-1965.
He worked for IBM for thirty years at various locations, across the Country.
Mr. Van Dixon volunteered with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and was a Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and singing. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Olean.
In addition to his wife, he is survived two sons Stephen (JoAnn) VanDixon of Shippensburg, PA, Kevin (Claudia) VanDixon of Derry N.H.; one brother Glenn (Mary Beth) VanDixon of Olean; one sister Sissy (Walter) Gordnier of Portville; five grandchildren Amanda, Christopher, Sydney, Abby, and Max; several nieces and nephews; and was dearly loved by his brothers and sisters in law.
He was predeceased by a brother David VanDixon
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig, and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean on Wednesday from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (December 22, 2016) at 10am at the funeral home, with Rev. Alan Yates, Pastor of Central Baptist Church in Olean, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor.
Memorials if desired may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Central Baptist Church, 701 W. State Street, Olean NY 14760.
