Obituary of John W. "Jack" Rutterman

John W. "Jack" Rutterman Portville, NY John W. "Jack" Rutterman, 81, of 543 Whitehouse Rd. passed away Monday (October 17, 2016) at Fiddler's Green Manor in Springville. Born May 18, 1935 in Buffalo he was the son of Henry and Ethel Ovenstone Rutterman. On May 24, 1958 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean he married Elizabeth A. "Betty" Crosson who survives. Mr. Rutterman was a graduate of Hamburg High School and received a BS in Engineering from Youngstown (Ohio) State University. He served with the US Army from 1958 to 1960. He had been employed as a metallurgical engineer for various companies, including the foundry at Dresser Clark Co. in Olean from 1964 to 1976 and later for the former Macler Industries in Friendship. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #616 in Olean and was a former Jaycee in Portville. He also had been a member of the American Society of Metallurgical Engineers and the American Foundry Association. He loved reading and gardening, and for years was especially fond of whittling. Surviving besides his wife are 3 sons David (Mia O'Brien) Rutterman of Olean, Doug (Brenda) Rutterman of Portville and Daniel (Pam Franklin) Rutterman of Morganton, NC; 5 grandchildren Shannon, Ty, Ben, Bill and Jessica and 3 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter Linda Emick in 2001. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Services will be held Thursday (October 20, 2016) at 10:30am in the funeral home. Rev. David Tourville, associate pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Portville Free Library, 1 N. Main St., Portville, NY 14770 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
