Obituary of Barbara Sledge-Williams

Barbara Sledge - Williams Olean, NY Barbara Sledge-Williams of 734 Bishop Street entered into the arms of her Heavenly Father Saturday, June 25, 2016. Born September 11, 1948 in Fairmont, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late William Hardy Rogers Sr. and Elizabeth Scott Rogers. She moved to Allegany in 1968. Barbara was a longtime resident of the Olean area. She had been an active member in The Church of God of Prophecy since 1980. She has served on the Pastor's Aide Committee under the ministries of Pastor Marion Richey, Pastor Clement Hutchinson, Pastor Immanuel Humes, Sr., Pastor Charmaine Cumberbatch, Pastor Karen Moe and Pastor General Wydell. She served as the president of the hospitality committee. Her service was to God, her local church body and community. She also was the creator of the Sister-to-Sister Ministry in her local church. Barbara also was a member of the Gospel Choraliers under the direction of Beverly Twitty-Terrian. She also played in the softball leagues in Olean and loved cooking and taking care of her family. Barbara began her employment in Olean as a waitress at Paul's Steak House. She saved her tips and used them as a down payment on her first home in Allegany. She also had worked at AVX Co. and the former McGraw & Edison (aka Cooper Power System, now ATN) from which she retired. In 1998 in Elkland, PA., she married Clarence Williams who survives. Barbara also leaves to mourn her passing five children; Michaele D. Washington of Atlanta,Ga., Quintin A. Sledge of Woodbridge, Va., D'Yvonne (Terrence) Duncan and Tricia L. Sledge of Rochester, N.Y., and Elizabeth M. Sledge of Niagara Falls, N. Y. She is also survived by Seventeen grandchildren, Eight great-grandchildren, Eight God-children; Three sisters, Willa (John) McPhatter, Patricia (Willie) O'Neal, Odessa Jean Rogers and many nieces, nephews and friends. Other siblings that preceded her are William Hardy Rogers, Jr., Carrie Scipio, Elenora Coleman, Margaret Rogers and Thelma Bullock. Barbara's homecoming service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 10 A.M. at The Lighthouse Church of God of Prophecy located at 919 King Street in Olean. (corner of King and Prospect).
