Obituary of Azuba J. Nitsche

Azuba J. Nitsche Olean, NY-- Azuba J. Nitsche, 104, formerly of the Olean House Apartments, died Tuesday (November 9, 2004) in the Bradford, PA Manor where she had resided for the past several years. Born September 7, 1900 in Elysburg, PA she was the daughter of William and Lucy Chaffee Gilliland. On November 9, 1923 she married Walter Nitsche who predeceased her in September 1960. Mrs. Nitsche was a resident of Olean most of her life and had operated a beauty salon in Olean and later in Richburg, NY. After returning to Olean she worked at the Olean General Hospital prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and she enjoyed vegetable gardening as well as growing flowers. Surviving are one son Rudy (Rachel) Nitsche of Axton, VA; two twin daughters Dorothy (William ) Ruff of Wheatfield, NY and Doris Gore of Portville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Betty Gazdik in 2001 and several brothers and sisters. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday (November 12, 2004) from 11:30am until 1:30pm. Funeral services will follow at 1:30pm in the funeral home. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
