Wilma M. Gayton "loving mother and grandmother" Olean, NY-- Wilma M. Gayton of 401 Alder St. Apt. 60 died Wednesday (December 1, 2004) in her home after a long illness. Born May 19, 1938 in Osage, West Virginia she was the daughter of Joseph and Rose A. Morris Herbert, Sr. Mrs. Gayton was a student in Uniontown, PA and had resided in Olean most of her life. She worked in Hinsdale at Crosby’s poultry plant for a couple years and she also worked for many years in the food industry as a cook at the Olean General Hospital, for the Cornell Cooperative Extension and as a dietary aid for the Children’s Learning Center at the Rehabilitation Center. She was a clerk at the former Kresge’s Store and the former Price Cutter, both in Olean. She most recently worked at Sister Pat’s Home on N. First St. in Olean prior to her retirement. She attended New Hope Fellowship in Olean and enjoyed volunteering at the Olean Food Pantry. She was a passionate follower of Christ and loved to read the Bible. She also enjoyed walking, knitting and crocheting. Surviving are six children Gary L. Herbert, Sr. of Olean, Keith D. (Wendy) Clemons of Olean, Terri L. Gayton of Olean, Kristol C. Gayton of Columbus, OH, Harry G. (Rose) Gayton, III of Olean and Kyle B. Gayton of Olean; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; four sisters Bernice Galmer, Martha Peterson, Nellie Daniels all of Olean and Anna G. Ashraf of Arlington, TX; one brother Joseph H. Herbert of Olean and several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her "daughter" Lori Burak and two special nieces Sharleen Daniels and Sonya Yarbourgh. She was predeceased by a sister Mary Jackson. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Saturday (December 4, 2004) at 1:00pm in Mt. Zion Christian Assembly 361 Front St. Olean. Rev. Stanley Parks and Rev. Doug _ will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Olean Food Pantry or to Hope’s Kitchen C/O Mt. Zion Christian Fellowship 361 Front St. Olean, NY 14760.
