Elmer O. Severtson
"Beloved husband, father and grandfather"
Allegany, NY-Elmer O. Severtson of the Four Mile Road passed away peacefully Friday (June 5, 2009).
Born January 28, 1922 in Jamestown, NY he was the son of Peter T. and Anna Miller Severtson. On June 24, 1950 he married Kathryn Truax who survives.
Mr. Severtson was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School and worked for Lakeland Farms in Stow, NY. He then worked for 13 years for GLF (Agway, Inc). In October of 1962 he bought a farm on the Four Mile Road in Allegany which became Severtson Poultry and Dairy Farm. He operated the farm for 22 years.
He was a past member of the FHA Committee, Agway District Committee, The Allegany Zoning Board and the Eagle Rod and Gun Club. He also belonged to the Sixty Plus Club in Allegany and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 15 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, bowling, golfing, hunting, fishing and playing euchre.
Surviving besides his wife are 2 sons Jerry (Barbara) Severtson and James (Sally) Severtson, both of Allegany; a granddaughter Cari Severtson of Olean; a grandson Steven (Amy) Severtson of Portville; 3 step granddaughters Naomi Watt of Little Valley, Lynda Watt of Salamanca and Raellen Watt of Fillmore; 2 great grandsons Caleb and Christian Severtson of Olean; 2 great granddaughters Autumn and Dakota Severtson of Portville; 5 step great grandchildren; a special friend Albert Putt of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Peter C. Severtson.
There will be no prior visitation. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held Monday (June 8, 2009) at 11:00am in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Fr. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor of St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to a charity of the donor's choice.
