Obituary of Mary Gunter

Mary J. Gunter Allegany, NY-Mary J. Gunter of 3974 Route 417 passed away Tuesday (April 28, 2009) in the Olean General Hospital. Born September 28, 1919 in Allegany she was the daughter of Edward F. and Gertrude Riehler Ryan. Mrs. Gunter was a graduate of Allegany High School and had resided in Allegany all of her life. She had first been employed by the former Bell Aircraft in Buffalo during WWII and later worked in Olean for the former Kresge's Department Store and Leo's Market. She was last employed as a nurse's aide for the former Allegany Nursing Home. She was a devout catholic and lifelong member of St. Bonaventure Church and she enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Surviving are 3 children Edward Gunter of Allegany, NY, Mary (Gary) Hess of Albany, California and Valerie (David Droney) Gunter of Romulus, NY; 7 grandchildren Nathan Buffington, Matthew Buffington, Sarah Gunter-Droney, Molly Gunter-Droney, Christopher Hess, Moira Hess, Erin Gidlund; 2 great-grandchildren Caitlin Buffington, Emily Buffington; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers John Ryan and Vincent Ryan; and a sister Virginia Carney. There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Friday (May 1, 2009) at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allegany Ambulance Fund or to St. Bonaventure Church.
