Thomas P. Filjones
Olean, NY-Thomas P. Filjones of 1206 Spruce St. died Sunday (April 5, 2009) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness.
Born February 1, 1958 in Olean, NY he was the son of Nicholas J. "Buck" and Patricia Reilly Filjones. On March 27, 2008 in Olean he married Lucy Masip who survives.
Mr. Filjones was a 1976 graduate of Olean High School and had resided in Olean all of his life. He worked for the former Bachman Potato Chip Co. and later worked for Stroehmann Bakeries. He then was employed as a cook at the former L'Alcove Restaurant. He later worked for several years at the Olean Tile Plant, retiring due to disability.
Mr. Filjones was a member of St. John's Church in Olean and helped run the pop tent at the church's annual Festa Italiana for many years. He was a sports fan who enjoyed playing basketball as a young man and was an avid follower of the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills. He also enjoyed hunting. He was a good, loving husband and father who helped coach his children's soccer team and he loved cooking.
Surviving besides his wife are his father of Olean; 3 sons Thomas M. (Carrie) Filjones of Blasdell, Stephen (Amber Trost) Filjones of Blasdell and Brian L. (Jessica) Filjones of Hamburg; 1 daughter Angela M. (Robert Stetler) Filjones of Blasdell; 3 stepchildren Matthew Crane of Olean, Megan Crane of Livonia and Sarah Scott of Hinsdale; 2 brothers Ronald (Arlene) Filjones and John (Denise) Filjones, both of Allegany; 1 sister Helen Keefe of Warren, PA and several nieces, nephews, an aunt, an uncle and several cousins.
In addition to his mother he was predeceased by a brother-in-law William Keefe.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (April 8, 2009) beginning with a prayer service at 10:00am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am in St. John's Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
