Daniel V. Brislane
"Devoted to the University"
Allegany, NY-Daniel V. Brislane of 4151 Chapel Hill Rd. died unexpectedly Friday (March 6, 2009) in his home.
Born April 7, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois he was the son of Vincent D. and Winifred M. O'Connor Brislane.
Mr. Brislane was an ROTC graduate where he received his training at St. Ignatius School in Chicago, subsequently serving in the US Army. He later graduated from Xavier College and he began his teaching career at Bowling Green University. In the 1960's he began employment at St. Bonaventure University as an Associate Professor of English Literature with a specialty in 18th Century British Literature. His efforts were focused on the best interests of the students as his love of the theater led him to take many student groups to plays in the regional theaters. He himself regularly traveled to further places to enjoy the theater. For many years he took his passion for connecting with the students lives outside academics by participating in many ways with the operation of the St. Bonaventure University Swim Team.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church where he faithfully served as a regular communicant and as a lector. He also taught public speaking. His pet dogs over the years were an important part of his life and he took extraordinary care of them.
Surviving are several cousins outside the local area.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Monday from 5-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday (March 10, 2009) at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Friends of the Library 134 N. 2nd St. Olean, NY 14760.

A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday (March 10, 2009) at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church, 202 S. Union St. in Olean, NY 14760.

All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL next to his parents
