Hilda N. Jacobi
Olean, NY Hilda N. Jacobi, 95, of 285 Hamilton Ave. passed away Friday (April 10, 2015) in Olean after a short illness.
She was born October 16, 1919 to Samuel Cramer and Nellie Adora Newell at home on their dairy farm on the Narrows Road, Franklinville NY. She graduated from Ten Brook Academy in Franklinville and attended Westbrook Commercial Academy and Saint Bonaventure University for bookkeeping and accounting. She worked at Daystroms and Producers Gas Company in Olean as an accountant. She married Helmuth O. Jacobi in March 1948 and they raised two sons, Robert D. Jacobi (Hana) of Buffalo, NY and William R. Jacobi (Evelyn) of Fort Collins, CO.
Hilda enjoyed gardens and gardening, home making and cooking for the family at the home she and her husband built and lived in for over 64 years in Olean. She enjoyed traveling around the world, camping with the trailer, music in many forms, and working on family history. She spent many hours on crafts, sewing, and needlepoint, knitting, and crocheting beautiful items. She so loved buying, wrapping and sending presents to her grandchildren and family members around the world. She enjoyed learning about the plants, birds and local history of places she and Hal would visit. Hilda enjoyed cooking for her family and large gatherings of friends. Her roasts, salads, and amazing cookies, fruit cakes and her specialty the "pound cake" are well known.
Probably the most enjoyable times she had were in the back yard garden with family and friends on many a dinner gathering. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Olean, serving as a deacon and elder, and in the women's association. She was active in Boy Scouts as a Cub Scout Den Leader, served on the local Boy Scout Board and received a Silver Fawn award for her long timework. She was a caring and concerned citizen and friend to many, and spent many hours helping with various activities benefiting others. She was a good listener and was willing to offer advice when desired. She was strong willed and was well known for speaking her mind on topics.
In addition to her husband and two sons she is survived by two grandsons Kevin (Jess) Jacobi of Glenwood Springs, CO and Keith (Amy) Jacobi of Fort Collins, CO. She was predeceased by her brother Charles and her sister Kathleen.
