Danny was very inspirational in my life, three years older he was my West End idol. I am blessed to have the opportunity to play ball with Shemmy, perhaps not so blessed to have been a sparring partner, as my jaw still clicks today, the result od Danny's left hook. I am so sorry. His family lost a great man. He did all my plumbing for me . One year at Christmas time my hot water tank blew up. Dan found me a tank for free and put it in for free. He told me to use my money on the girls for Christmas. It will be sad not seeing him out walking this summer. May Dan rest in peace.

I came to know Dan through being his tenant in a few of his apartments over the past couple of years. His impecable detail in work in each was second to none. He is a bright spot while I am here in Olean, my wife and girls loved to see him, and he was great to have conversation with. I remember he showed me his lemon trees with such great pride. He will be missed. I respected and looked up to him (unbounded energy), and there are reminders of him everywhere. Deepest condolences.

To the whole Shembeda Family, I was so saddened to hear about Danny's passing. I worked with Danny at Kamery's Meats for a while before I moved away from the area in the early '80's. On your worst days he would always pick you up, dust you off, and make the day seem a whole lot better. I would see Danny from time to time when I came back home, and he always made it seem like I never left. He was a true Olean icon and I will never forget him. Although I didn't personally know the Shembeda family, Dan came frequently into Worth W Smith where I am a cashier. He was always so bright and outgoing. He always had a way of making me laugh.
