Ethel F. Gunsolus
Allegany, NY Ethel F. Gunsolus, 92, of 4203 Birch Run Rd. passed away unexpectedly Sunday (December 28, 2014) at her home.
Born August 21, 1922 in Olean she was the daughter of Erwin and Fern Hyde Schnell. On March 9, 1943 in Allegany she married Walter L. Gunsolus who passed away March 21, 1992.
Mrs. Gunsolus lived her early years on the Four Mile Road and was a graduate of Allegany High School. For years she had resided on the Birch Run Road where she was always affectionately known to all the children of the neighborhood as "Mom". In her younger years she enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards and bowling. She also enjoyed crocheting and doing puzzles. More recently she looked forward to Fridays and Sundays when her children would join her for bowling on the Wii and then lunch. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Hinsdale American Legion Auxiliary, Allegany Sixty Plus and was formerly active with the Allegany Engine Co. Auxiliary.
Surviving are five children Paul (Pauline) Gunsolus of Cuba, Donald Gunsolus of Franklinville, David Gunsolus of Olean, Stanley Gunsolus of Hinsdale and Susan (Randy) Smith of Randolph; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother-in-law Howard Gunsolus of Cattaraugus and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by two brothers Fred Schnell and Harold Schnell; two sisters Dorothy Mahoney and Grace Schnell and a daughter-in-law Linda Gunsolus.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday (December 31, 2014) from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00pm. Rev. Dan Buringrud, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or to the Allegany Engine Co.
