Obituary of Robert Youngs

"Loving Father and Grandfather and Retired Engineer" Allegany- Robert A. Youngs of 45 N. 5th Street, passed away Tuesday (November 25, 2014) at the Olean General Hospital. Born January 24, 1928 in Olean, he was the son of John and Dorothy Stephens Youngs. On July 1, 1950 at Stephen's Episcopal Church in Olean, he married Dorothy J. White, who predeceased him on July 4, 2008. Mr. Youngs enlisted in the United States Army on Occupational Duty in Japan in the 11th Airborne Division serving from 1946-1947. He later graduated from Alfred University in 1951, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Ceramic Engineering. Mr. Youngs worked as a ceramic engineer for several companies including Corning Glass and North American Philips until his retirement from Olean Advanced Products in 1988. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Portville Conservation Club. Mr. Youngs was a member emeritus of the American Ceramic Society, a member of the Keramos Honor Society and a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Surviving are three children Deborah (Rev. Joachim) Wilck of North Chili, Rob (Kathy) Youngs of Canandaigua and Rick (Lisa) Youngs of Allegany; five grandchildren Emily(Chad)Mabry, Sean Youngs, Kayla Youngs, Kara Youngs and Kristin Youngs; four great-grandchildren Rayshawn, Teliah, Collin and Caleb; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a grandson Timothy Wilck; an infant sister; and two brothers John "Jack" Youngs, and William Youngs. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road on Friday from 5-8pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday (November 29, 2014) at 12pm in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Rev. Kim Rossi, rector, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to the Allegany Engine Co.
