Allegany- John D. Stayer of 1137 Four Mile Road, Allegany, passed away Friday (August 22, 2014) at the Olean General Hospital. Born June 24, 1941in Olean he was the son of R. Arnold and Florence Clare Stayer. On January 27, 1962 in Holy Cross Church in Salamanca, he married Frances Zochowski, who survives. Mr. Stayer owned and operated Stayer Electric in Allegany. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to his camp. He especially loved spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children Timothy (Janet) Stayer of North Syracuse, Shawn (Karol) Stayer of Allegany, Linda (Larry) Martin of Allegany and Gregory (Colleen) Stayer of Olean; his grandchildren Samuel, Samantha, Kayla, Molly, Patrick, Hannah, Julia, Peter and Allie; one sister Elizabeth "Betsy" Cassell; and his beloved dog, Duffy. He was predeceased by three sisters Mary Kathleen Vossler, Nancy McCarthy and Suzanne Wilber; and three brothers Edward Stayer, James Stayer and Thomas Stayer. At Mr. Stayer's request, visitation and funeral services will be private. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials if desired may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean.
