Dorothy M. Ahrens Ostergard
Olean, NY Dorothy M. Ahrens Ostergard of 1942 E. River Rd. passed away peacefully Sunday (June 8, 2014) at the Absolut Care of Allegany after a short illness.
Born October 23, 1915 in Olean she was the daughter of Gustav and Minnie Travers Ahrens.
Mrs. Ostergard was a 1934 graduate of Olean High School and attended Westbrook Commercial Academy as well as St. Bonaventure University. She had been employed as a bookkeeper for the former Foss Brothers in Olean and later for the former Carnahan's Men's Shop.
She was a devoted mother for all her children and spent a good portion of her life caring for her son John during his lifelong illness. She was an avid bowler, loved to dance and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan as well as a LA Lakers fan.
Surviving are 2 daughters Linda (Robert) Swope of Halifax, PA and Judy (R. Jeff) Young of Allegany; 3 grandchildren Michael (Sonia) Young, Tara (Miles) Saksek and Jason (Andrea) Swope; 10 great grandchildren and 1 sister Jean Ahrens of Olean.
She was predeceased by her son John W. Ostergard May 19, 2006.
At Mrs. Ostergard's request, there will be no visitation. Services will be private with burial at Allegany Cemetery. Rev. Millard Cook, associate pastor of the First Baptist Church of Olean, will officiate. Memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Elm and Carlton Sts. Buffalo, NY 14263, the Town of Olean Fire Department or to Shriner's Hospital 3551 N. Broad St. Philadelphia, PA 19140.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
