James E. Kehoe "longtime Olean attorney" Olean, NY - James E. Kehoe of 410 Madison Ave. died Thursday (January 9, 2003) in the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness. Born July 16, 1920 in Olean, NY Mr. Kehoe was the son of James E. and Margaret Drake Kehoe, Sr. He married Patricia Murrin on September 21, 1950 in St. Joseph's Old Cathedral in Buffalo, NY. Patricia predeceased him on Aug. 21, 2002. Mr. Kehoe was a 1938 graduate of Olean High School, afterwards attending Alfred University on a football scholarship. From 1942 to 1946 he served with the US Army during WWII. He then continued his education at Alfred University from 1946 to 1947. In 1950 Mr. Kehoe received his law degree from the University of Buffalo, and passed the bar. A three-sport athlete and football standout at Olean High School, he was also selected as "All Western NY Quarterback" at Alfred University. In recognition, Mr. Kehoe was elected to the Alfred University Hall of Fame in 1992, and the Olean High School Hall of Fame in 1993. Mr. Kehoe began practicing law in 1950, and in 1952 established Wade & Kehoe with Leighton T. Wade. In 1958 he was admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court. Mr. Kehoe's most prestigious honor was bestowed on October 10, 1973 with his "invitation only" induction as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. In 1982 he established Kehoe & !DeRose with Daniel A. !DeRose, which continues to practice in Olean. Mr. Kehoe was a member of St. John's Church and was serving as a parish trustee. He was a member of the American Bar Association, and also served as President of the Cattaraugus County Bar Association. Mr. Kehoe was a past member of the Olean General Hospital Board of Directors, was a member of the Olean Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and was a member of the Bartlett Country Club. Surviving are six daughters: Kathleen (William) Knight of Port St. Lucie, FL, Mary Fay, Sheila Kehoe, Adrienne Kehoe, and Ann Treadway, all of Olean, NY, and Colleen (David) Ball of Greensboro, NC; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister Suzanne (Daniel) !McCarthy of Ocean City, NJ; brothers John (Gloria) Kehoe of Poughkeepsie, NY and Thomas (Sandy) Kehoe of Fairport, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Mr. Kehoe was predeceased by a sister Mildred (Midge) Neary on September, 17, 2002. Friends will be received on Saturday (January 11, 2003) from 7-9 PM and on Sunday (January 12, 2003) from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3138 W. State St. Olean where there will also be a prayer service for Mr. Kehoe on Monday (January 13, 2003) at 9:15 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the prayer service at 10:00 AM in St. John's Church with Msgr. William Wangler, pastor, and concelebrant Msgr. James Kelly of St. Margaret's Church, Buffalo, NY. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery . In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made to St. John's Church, Olean, NY.
