Obituary of Robert Ost

Robert J. Ost Olean, NY Robert J. Ost of E. River Rd. passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (April 8, 2014) in his home. Born June 9, 1941 in Detroit, MI he was the son of the late Robert G. and Adeline Hove Ost. On October 25, 1975 in Gettysburg, PA he married Patricia A. French who predeceased him January 26, 2010. Mr. Ost was a graduate of Cleveland Hill High School in Buffalo and then served with the US Air Force from 1959 until 1961. After moving from Buffalo he resided and worked in Jamestown. He moved to Portville, then to Olean shortly after marriage and worked for the former Curtis Industries as a mechanical parts salesman until his retirement. From September 2006 to the present he worked for Wal-Mart in Bradford, PA in the grocery department. He was an avid bowler for many years and he also enjoyed golfing and fishing. He liked to collect boating and fishing memorabilia. In the last several years, after his wife's passing, he enjoyed the company of his dear friend Diane Peasley of Olean. Together they enjoyed some traveling, and also caring for all of their combined house pets including 3 dogs and 6 cats. Diane affectionately referred to him by the formal-sounding nickname of "Jeffery VonOston". Surviving are 1 daughter Dottie D. (James R. Breads) Ost of Westfield; 1 granddaughter Ariel Breads; 2 sisters Nancy (Tom McPheeters) Ost of Albany and Hillary Ferrara of Sarasota, FL and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Saturday (May 3, 2014) at 2:00pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean.
