Pauline "Polly" Feightner
Olean, NY-- Pauline "Polly" Feightner, 74, of Olean NY, passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, April 8, 2014, surrounded by family, after a long illness. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, she was a true friend to all who had the honor of knowing her.
Born September 9, 1939 in Clearfield, PA, Pauline was the sixth of seven children born to Albert (Alberico) and Josephine (Pontillo) Coviello. On October 11, 1958, she married Thomas K. Feightner of Johnstown, PA after the two met in beauty school. They moved to Olean in 1959, and soon after, opened Tommy's Hairdressing Salon, a long-time area business, where Pauline worked from 1967 until she retired.
Polly Feightner was a writer, poet, artist, and a lifelong avid reader. Her paintings and artworks have been sold at charity events and, in particular, to raise money for Mt. Irenaeus Franciscan Retreat in West Clarksville, NY.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and enjoyed playing games, reading stories, and cooking with them. Many area school children knew Pauline as "Mrs. Santa Claus," a role she truly loved to play as often as she could. She was also a die-hard Yankee fan, and her crush on Mickey Mantle was rivaled only by her favorite actor Paul Newman. She also loved to watch March Madness basketball games, and could sometimes be heard rooting for her teams from several blocks away.
Her enthusiasm for life was incredible, and she spread it to others in everything she did. Much more than just a hairdresser, Pauline was an extraordinary life counselor, always sought out for her sound advice, guidance, and prayerful faith. She helped others at every opportunity, friend or stranger, and her faith, central to her own life, was a true inspiration to all.
Pauline was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Angels church, and had been referred to by some as "the best lector St. Mary's ever had ."
