Obituary of Ruth McCarthy

Ruth J. McCarthy Allegany, NY Ruth J. McCarthy, formerly of 72 N. 1st St. passed away Sunday (March 2, 2014) at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility where she had resided the past few years. Born March 26, 1927 in Olean she was the daughter of Harold and Alvina Freels Putt. She was first married to William Lounsbury. On December 25, 1959 she married Thomas R. McCarthy who predeceased her January 1, 1991. Mrs. McCarthy was primarily a homemaker but had also cleaned houses for families in the area. She had formerly attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany and was always ready to play bingo. She was very caring for animals, especially cats, enjoyed flower gardening and collecting knick knacks. Along with her husband she enjoyed trips to Niagara Falls. Surviving are a son Paul (Chris) Lounsbury of Allegany; 2 grandchildren Jeffery Champlin of Portville and Jessica Lounsbury of Allegany; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; 1 sister Bonnie Gardiner of Allegany; 1 brother Ron (Dee) Putt of Hinsdale and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a brother Merle Putt. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (March 6, 2014) at 7pm in the evening at the funeral home. Rev. Dan Buringrud will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
