Obituary of Donald J. Hays

Donald J. Hays Allegany, NY-- Donald J. Hays of 3632 Hays-Anderson Rd. died Sunday (November 23, 2003) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness. Born November 15, 1934 in Cyclone, PA he was the son of Elmer and Bessie Cross Hays. On June 26, 1954 at St. Bernard's Church in Bradford, PA he married Ellen P. Wilber who survives. Mr. Hays started working in the oil fields in Bradford, later becoming an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for 17 years. He then was employed by the former !VanDerHorst Corp. in Olean and then for St. Bonaventure University, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church. He loved hunting and fishing and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife are 2 daughters Patricia (Cyril) Cunningham of Frankfort, KY and Cheryl Underwood of Riverside, CA; 2 sons Michael (Katherine) Hays of Allegany and Donald (Shauna) Hays of Oswayo, PA; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 sister Edna Lloyd of Port Allegany, PA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 1 sister Catherine "Lorraine" Mealy and 1 brother Robert Hays. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (November 26, 2003) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to a charity of the donor's choice.
