Obituary of Sheila Quinlan

Allegany, NY Sheila M. Quinlan of 2575 Five Mile Road passed away Saturday (December 28, 2013) at Absolut of Salamanca following a long illness. Born August 28, 1931 in Bay Shore, New York, she was a daughter of Diarmuid and Margaret Wheeler Dixon. On October 27, 1956, she married Eugene F. Quinlan, who passed away December 26, 1983. A 1949 graduate of St. Elizabeth's Academy in Allegany, she attended St. Bonaventure University. Among her places of employment were St. Bonaventure University, M and T Bank in Buffalo, and Archbishop Walsh High School. She worked at Adam, Meldrum, and Anderson/The Bon Ton for 20 years, retiring in 1997. Following her retirement, she worked part-time at the Allegany Public Library until 2009. She was a longtime volunteer at St. Bonaventure Parochial School, Archbishop Walsh High School, and the Allegany Public Library. She is survived by five children, Patricia Q. (George) Covley of West Seneca, Eugene D. Quinlan of Lancaster, PA., Francis A. Quinlan of Indianapolis, IN., Robert E. (Jody) Quinlan of Salamanca, and Phillip J. Quinlan of Allegany; three grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Covley, Joseph F. Covley, and Margaret T. Covley; one sister, Margaret Grady of East Amherst; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, a sister, Maureen Lynah, five brothers-in-law, John Lynah, James Grady, Joseph Wild, John Quinlan, and J. Donald Jones; and three sisters-in-law Mary Wild, Anne Jones, and Norma Quinlan. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 West State Road, Olean on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday (December 31, 2013) beginning with a prayer service at 11 am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure Church at 11:30am. Fr. Michael Jones, OFM, nephew to Mrs. Quinlin, will be the principal celebrant and Fr. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will concelebrate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Allegany Public Library or to Saint Bonaventure Church.
