Obituary of Meranda Elling

Meranda O. Elling Olean, NY Meranda O. Elling, recently of Olean and formerly of Hinsdale, passed away Saturday (November 2, 2013) at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Nursing Home. Born July 13, 1921 in Nome, ND she was the daughter of Olaf and Mabel Hagen Johnson. On July 6, 1941 in Olean she married Bernard D. Elling who predeceased her April 20, 2010. Mrs. Elling graduated from high school in 1939 in Nome, ND. As a longtime resident of Hinsdale she was a housewife and an active volunteer with the Hinsdale Rebecca Lodge, the Olean General Hospital and for Meals on Wheels. She was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church and also served as the secretary for years for the Hinsdale Grange #843. She also loved to bowl. Meranda's family would like to thank the staff at Eden Heights of Olean and the Cuba Memorial Hospital for the care they provided. Surviving are three children Gary (Ann) Elling of Rochester, Donald (Betty) Elling of Hinsdale and Nancy (Jim) Wade of Little Rock, AR; eight grandchildren Benjamin Elling, Andrew Elling, Fred Elling, Judy (Ronald) Tuttle, Jerry Elling, Karen (Eric) Evans, Sarah (Scott) Wright and Audra (Troy) Pousardien; eight great grandchildren Brooks Wright, Sarah and Jennifer Tuttle, Trent and Maitlyn Evans and Evan, Meranda and Joshua Pousardien; a sister-in-law Luella Johnson of Enderlin, ND and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by one brother and six sisters. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Saturday (November 23, 2013) at 11:00am at the Hinsdale United Methodist Church on Main St. in Hinsdale. Rev. Robert Young, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Hinsdale Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Hinsdale United Methodist Church, Bethany Lutheran Church in Olean or to a charity of the donor's choice.
