Obituary of Joan Collins

Joan D. Collins Olean- Joan D. Collins, formerly of 22 S. Shore Road Cuba, passed away Thursday (October 24, 2013) at Eden Heights, where she had been residing for the past two years. Born April 10, 1929 in Lancaster, NY she was the daughter of Alex and Stella Koziol Sowinski. On July 11, 1953 at St. Helen&amp;#39;s Church in Hinsdale, she married Richard R. Collins, who predeceased her September 7, 1987. Mrs. Collins was a graduate of Hinsdale Central School and was employed for many years as a receptionist at BOCES in Olean. She was a former member of St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean and volunteered for many years at the Olean Public Library and Cuba Library. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and playing Bridge, Pinochle and Dominoes. Surviving are six sons Raymond (Lauren) Collins of Palm Harbor, FL., Patrick (Janice) Collins of Franklinville, Peter (Valerie) Collins of Olean, Matthew (Carol) Collins of Dubuque, IA, John (Pamela) Collins of New Milford, PA, Joseph (Michael) Collins of New Hampshire; two sisters Angela Cozzarin of Abingdon, VA., Patricia (Leo) Nenno of Olean; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (October 30, 2013) beginning with a 9:30 prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to St. Mary of the Angels Church building fund, Olean Public Library 134 N. 2nd Street, Olean, NY 14760 or to the Cuba Library 39 E.
