Claude L. Miller, 64, of 2461 Ten Mile Road passed away Wednesday (September 18, 2013) at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo, surrounded by his loving family.
Born October 5, 1948 in Olean he was the son of Clarence L. and Dorothy Perry Miller. He was first married to Rosemary Larrabee in 1969 in Olean. They later divorced in 2000 after many years of separation. He then married Donna Matteson on July 7, 2001 and they had enjoyed twelve years of marriage together.
Mr. Miller joined the United States Marine Corp in 1967. He provided meritorious service during the Vietnam War and was discharged in May 1970, having achieved the rank of Lance Corporal E3.
He first worked for Olean Tile Co. and later for Blue Bird Co., Seneca Crafts and for various trucking companies. He was then employed as a school bus driver for Cattaraugus-Little Valley School and later for Allegany-Limestone Central School where he retired in 2012 after ten years.
Mr. Miller was a member of Believers Chapel in Allegany and enjoyed bowling, hunting, golf, woodworking, singing, learning to play the guitar and stargazing. He also was a pyrotechnician and was an avid collector of M&M memorabilia. Most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.
Surviving besides his wife are his children Shon (Marie) Miller of Olean, Tanya (Dave) Hand of Hinsdale, Lonnie (Maria) Miller of Olean, Doug (Jennifer) Babb of Corning, Christina (Brandon) Shaul of Salamanca and Leeanne (Brock) Miller of Cuba; his grandchildren Kristene (Miller) Crooks, Shon Miller, Jr., Alexis and Cody Miller, Bryan Taylor, Zackery Ginnery, Damion Hand, Adam Crawford, Javyn Welka, Dezera, Kyle, Elijha and Jalethyn Miller, Gabbi, Bryonna, Dawne, Angelina, Gavin and Searia Babb, Mercedes and Austin Gordon, Sequoia, Trapper, Brandon, Jr., Luke, Stephanie and Tiffany Shaul, Courtney Miller and Kim and Penny Miller; his great grandchildren Lucas Baxter, Dylan and Delila Crooks, Landin and Kairi Taylor, Vanezza Shaul and Chelsea Pauly and Skyla and Dylan Chapman; his sisters Pat Walden of Rushford, Maude (Charles) Mitchell of Olean; his brothers Jerry (Bonnie) Miller of Allegany, Russell (Opie) Miller of Hinsdale and John (Diane) Miller of Portville; a god daughter Salina Winship Bunk of Olean; many loving nieces and nephews and special friends and family Eric Gordon and Gary Gunton.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister Rose Seeley and a brother-in-law Dave Walden.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (September 24, 2013) at 10am at Believers Chapel on the West Five Mile Road in Allegany. Rev. Sean Obergfell, pastor, and Rev. Al Batt of Southside Union Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor with full military services being accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
