Paul A. Schuman
Olean, NY Paul A. Schuman of 741 Garden Ave. passed away Friday (July 12, 2013) at The Absolut of Allegany.
Mr. Schuman was born January 20, 1935 and was raised in Allegany on the South Nine Mile Road. He is the son of Herbert and Loretta Demel Schuman. On April 26, 1958 at St. Mary of the Angels Church he married Marilyn Haggerty who survives.
He was a 1953 graduate of Allegany Central School and in 1955 enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served until 1958. He then served two years for the N.Y.S. Guard. He was a member of the Teamster's Union and had been employed as a truck driver for most of his life having worked for several companies including Associated Transport and North American. In retirement he worked for the City of Olean as a parking attendant from 2000 to 2012.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, was an avid euchre player and was a NASCAR fan.
Surviving besides his wife are three children Sandra (Michael) Lyons, Mark (Margaret) Schuman and Paula (Pete) Dandrea, all of Olean; seven grandchildren Kristin (Ryan) Gustason, Michael (Brigette Duvall) Lyons, Jr., Kari (Dana) Jennings, Brock (Melissa Wilkinson) Lyons, Miranda Schuman, Jillian (Daryl) Rose and Derek Dandrea; five great grandchildren and two cousins whom he loved as brothers Thomas Schuman and Clair (Janet) Schuman, both of Allegany.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (July 16, 2013) at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with full military honors being accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
