Dolores D. Stayer
Olean, NY Dolores D. Stayer, 82, formerly of 520 School St. passed away Friday (July 12, 2013) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Olean after a very courageous battle with cancer.
"Dee" as she was affectionately known was born in Olean on January 8, 1931, the daughter of Willis N. and Gladys Bridgeman Bradley.
She was a 1947 graduate of the former Allegany Central School. Dee's places of employment over the years included Work & Silvis, Inc., Archbishop Walsh High School, Ed Stayer & Sons, Inc. and she was the manager of the Diamond and Watch Department at the former AM&A's. Dee also was employed at the Century Manor and was an Inspector of Elections for the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections. She eventually retired from Eckerd's Drug Store.
Dee was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and she belonged to the Olean Library Book of the Month Club and the Olean Red Hottie Hatters. Along with being an avid reader she loved to work in her flower garden. She looked forward to her lunches with "the girls" from AM&A's as well as seeing her former classmates at alumni reunions. In the 1950's and 1960's she was the scorekeeper at the Bradford Race Track and when it was time for the "Powder Puff Derby" you would see her behind the wheel of a stock car. Dee also loved to draw. There were always sketches on every available piece of paper in her home. While a resident at The Pines, she enjoyed looking out the window watching all the animals and birds in the yard.
She is survived by her beloved family: two sons William (Marcia) Stayer of Allegany and Stephen (Janice) Stayer of Waddell, AZ; her daughter Rebecca (Dennis) Amore of Friendship; grandchildren Jennifer (Michael) Vincent, James (Tammy) Stayer and Julie Stayer, all of Allegany, Christopher (Cheryl) Porro of San Francisco, Carrie (James) Martin of Phoenix, AZ and Heather Clark, all of Battle Creek, MI, Tiffany (Timothy) Pompeo of Lake View, Jason (Kara) Amore of Louisville, KY and Edward Amore of Belfast; step grandchildren Grace (Joey) Mallo of Las Vegas, NV and Stephanie (Aaron) Shupe of Tucson, AZ; her great grandchildren Amber, Daniel and Elizabeth Stayer, Naomi Porro, Emma and Ronin Martin, Eve & Shaelah Clark, Haley, Hannah and Timmy Pompeo and Julian Amore; step great grandchildren, Lexie Vincent and Connor Shupe. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and very dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers Willis Bradley and William Potter and her infant daughter Lucinda.
