Obituary of Gail Thompson

Allegany, NY Gail P. Thompson passed away Friday (July 5, 2013) at The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center, Olean. Born October 7, 1926 in Garland, PA he was the son of Ralph and Ruth Gifford Thompson. On November 3, 1950 in Clymer he married Carol J. Ton who survives. Mr. Thompson was raised in Clymer and then served with the U.S. Air Force from 1948 until 1950. He later owned and operated an Esso service station in Clymer. In 1966 he began working in Clarence as a claims adjustor for Nationwide Insurance Company, transferring to Olean where he later retired. He had been a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and at the Olean General Hospital. Surviving besides his wife are one daughter Sally J. (Edwin C.) Broad of Buffalo; one son Mark P. (Gayle) Thompson of Wellsboro, PA; three grandchildren Scott M. (Michelle) DeRose, Matthew J. (Jill) DeRose and Katie Thompson; three great grandchildren Emma, Elliott and Jacob DeRose; one brother James (Leona) Thompson of Clymer and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Roberta Renskers and a brother Ralph Thompson. There will be no visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials, if desired, may be made to The Friends of The Pines, 2245 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760 or to the Allegany Ambulance Fund.
