Obituary of Eber Bennett

Eber F. Bennett Olean, NY- Eber F. Bennett, formerly of E. Forest Ave. and of Colonial Village, and more recently of The Pines Nursing Home, passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday (June 12, 2013) at The Pines. Born July 22, 1913 in Tyler, Washington he was the son of Fred C. and Velma Ellsworth Bennett. On October 4, 1937 in Olean he married Helen F. Miller who predeceased him May 29, 2005. Mr. Bennett had attended the University of Idaho and was also a veteran of WWII having served with the US Army in the Philippines. He had been employed for 31 years as a machinist for Clark Bros. Co., now Dresser Rand Co. in Olean until his retirement in 1978. He was a longtime member of the First Methodist Church and later Christ United Methodist Church in Olean. He was also a former member of the St. Stephen's Club and was formerly active with the Olean Senior League and the Allegany Sixty Plus Club. He belonged to the United Steel Worker's Union Retirees Local # 4601. Surviving are 1 son Ronald (Bonnie) Bennett of Seaford, VA; 1 daughter Mary Lou (Dennis) Bailey of Fort Erie, Ontario; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 4 sisters Donna Clark, Alice Brown, Geraldine McGraw and Lena Young. At Mr. Bennett's request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Hinsdale Cemetery in Maplehurst, NY. Memorials may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church 633 Linwood Ave. Olean, NY 14760.
