Andrzej Colonna Klaczynski, MD
Allegany, NY Andrzej Colonna Klaczynski, MD of Allegany passed away peacefully Wednesday (May 15, 2013) in his home.
Born August 21, 1929 in Poznan, Poland he was the son of Wladislaw and Gabriela Klaczynski. On June 6, 1960 at St. Michael's Church in Milwaukee, WI he married Evelyn R. Klaczynski, his loving wife of the past fifty two years, who survives.
Dr. Andy, as he was affectionately known, emigrated with his family from Poland to the United States in 1947 where he attended Weidner College in Chester, PA, graduating in 1954. He then enlisted in the US Army where he served as a medic in the Korean War from 1954 to 1956 and continued service in the United States Army Reserve until 1962. In 1960 he graduated from the Marquette University School of Medicine and then interned at Mercy Hospital and served his residency at Sisters of Charity Hospital, both in Buffalo. He and his wife moved to Olean in 1962 where he established his family medical practice, first in the Mountain Clinic and later in the Medical Arts Building until his retirement in 2001.
He kept his physicians license maintained to the present day and for years served in the voluntary position for the Cattaraugus County Board of Health, most recently as its President. He was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and enjoyed taking care of his home and working outdoors and growing tomatoes in his garden. He also was an avid model train hobbyist as well as a voracious reader of science fiction.
Surviving besides his wife are three children John (Sue) Klaczynski of Spotsylvania, VA, Paul Klaczynski of Greeley, CO and Ann (Michael) Smiarowski of Oviedo, FL; five grandchildren Julia Klaczynski, Brianna Klaczynski Michael Klaczynski, Lauren Smiarowski and Andrew Smiarowski; one sister Barbara Skarbek of Scottsdale, AZ and several nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Nancy Klaczynski in 1986.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 4 to 7pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (May 21, 2013) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
