Obituary of John Mooney

John C. Mooney Olean, NY John C. Mooney, a longtime resident of Olean, passed away Thursday (April 4, 2013) at the Bradford Ecumenical Home in Bradford, PA. Born March 21, 1925 in Olean he was the son of Joseph and Gretchen Collins Mooney. On May 17, 1947 in Olean he married Dorothy Bosworth who predeceased him April 15, 2012. Mr. Mooney was a graduate of Olean High School and was a member of the '41-'42 Football Club. He then enlisted in the US Navy where he served during WWII until 1946. He had been employed as a dispatcher for Boss Linco Trucking for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his wife of sixty four years. Surviving are two sons Patrick (Connie) Mooney of Olean and Michael (Debby) Mooney of Allegany; one daughter Ann (Robin) Hurlburt of Hinsdale; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by one brother Thomas Mooney and one sister Jean Whitford. At Mr. Mooney's request, there will be no visitation. Private services will be held at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean at the convenience of the family. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 315 Alberta Dr. Suite 102, Amherst, NY 14226.
