Obituary of Joseph McMahon

Allegany, NY Joseph M. McMahon, 95, a former longtime Allegany resident, passed away Sunday (February 10, 2013) in the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.
He was born in Oil City, PA on December 30, 1917 to John and Clara Boats McMahon. While a young boy his family moved to Allegany where he graduated from Allegany High School. He was a WW II Navy veteran, serving in the "CB's" in the South Pacific. After his service, on December 10, 1945 in Allegany he married Barbara J. Lippert who survives.
Mr. McMahon worked at Dresser Industries for thirty five years until his retirement in 1981. He also taught welding at BOCES in Olean for twenty five years and was a member of the Welding Society of America. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing. After retiring he loved working with stained glass, gardening and traveling. He and his wife visited all forty eight lower states, the British Isles and part of Europe.
He was an usher at St. Bonaventure Church for twenty five years, a member of the Allegany Knights of Columbus Council 1220, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Allegany American Legion Post 892.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons Joseph (Ann) McMahon of Monroe CT., William McMahon of Penfield NY; one daughter Clara (Abu) Ramadhan of Salamanca NY; four grand children; four great grand children and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his four brothers, Don, Jack, Jim and Remegius and one sister, Dorothy Sedlock.
There will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Thursday (February 14, 2013) at 1:00pm in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
