Obituary of Zygmond Slevinski

Allegany- Zygmond J. "Ziggy" Slevinski of 3167 Maple Ave. Ext. passed away Monday (January 21, 2013) at the Olean General Hospital. Born December 31, 1917 in Olean, he was the son of Kaiser and Anna Kozub Slevinski. On September 20, 1944 in Salamanca, he married Theresa Nickola who survives. Mr. Slevinski was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force from 1942-1946, serving during World War II. He was employed at the former Daystrom's Furniture and later for AVX in Olean. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and a life member of the Pulaski Club. Mr. Slevinski enjoyed playing baseball, coaching softball, bowling, bingo and pinochle but he enjoyed spending time with his family the most. He was also an avid Notre Dame fan. Surviving besides his wife are four children Marie Carver of Daytona Beach, FL, Thomas John (Mary Lynn) Slevinski of Davenport, FL, Stanislaus (Sara) Slevinski of South Bend IN, Susan (Mark) Bowen of Holly Hills, FL; three grandchildren Lindsay, Zygmond, and Richard; one great-granddaughter Cameryn Noel Slevinski; one sister Irene Kukulka; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by three brothers Edward, Chester and Casimer; and two sisters Stella and Julia. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Road on Friday from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (January 26, 2013) beginning with a 12:30pm prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a 1pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department, St. Bonaventure Church or to a charity of the donors choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.oleanfuneralhome.com
