Obituary of Verna Mikolajczyk

Leroy- Verna A. Mikolajczyk, a former Olean resident, and most recently a resident of Leroy Village Green, passed away Thursday (January 17, 2013) at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.
Born February 4, 1923 in Oakfield, NY, she was the daughter of Anthony and Josephine Balon Kowalczyk. She married John Mikolajczyk, who survives.
Mrs. Mikolajczyk was a lifelong member of the former Transfiguration Church. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics and playing Bingo.
Surviving besides her husband are four children Diane (Jerry) Nesbitt, Eleanor (Peter) Geraci, Nancy (David) Lorenzini and Judith (Bill)Mikolajczyk Hill; nine grandchildren Peter Geraci, Philip Geraci, Thaddeus Geraci, Nicole Braun, Michelle Nesbitt, Daniel Lorenzini, Ann Marie Kelly, Jennifer Petersen and Laura Hansen; nine great-grandchildren; a brother Louis Kowalczyk and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother Julian Kowalczyk and a sister Sophie Plapus Dermitty.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean on Monday (January 21, 2013) from 10-11:30am at which time a prayer service will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at St. John's Church, Olean. Rev. Edward Sheedy, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
