Obituary of Mary Seamans

Olean- Mary P. Seamans, formerly of 124 N. 21st Street, and Eden Heights, died Sunday (November 4, 2012) at the Pines Health & Rehabilitation Center in Olean, surrounded by her family.
Born June 19, 1924 in Olean, she was the daughter of the later Howard J. and Amelia M. Lippert Levett. On October 17, 1945 in Olean, she married Dallas L. Seamans, who died September 14, 1991.
Mrs. Seamans was a graduate of Olean High School. She had worked at Daystrom Furniture, Olean Plumbing and Heating, The Sample Store and Professional Answering Service of Olean, NY. She had also worked at the polling places on election days for several years and as a census taker for the Olean City Census.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Mrs. Seamans had also been active in the Olean General Hospital Volunteer sewing group, the Olean Historical and Preservation Society, and had been a volunteer at the Olean Public Library before her illness. She was a member of the American Association or Retired Persons (AARP) and a former member of the Cuba Lake Cottage Owners' Association. Mrs. Seamans enjoyed playing cards and had belonged to many area card clubs over the years.
Mrs. Seamans was first and foremost, a family person and always put her family first. She raised her family with much love and wisdom. She loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit and was always ready to play board games or cards with them. She was very proud of her family and attended every recital, concert, athletic event, and graduation that she was able to before her illness. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered, by her family.
Surviving are four sons David (Joyce) Seamans of Saginaw, MI., James (Lauren) Seamans of The Woodlands TX., Jeffery (Amy) Seamans of Norman, OK., and William (Diane) Seamans of Hampstead, MD; two daughters Patricia (Lawrence) Straub of Cuba, and Barbara (David) Rogers of Olean; eleven grandsons Kevin Straub, Andrew C. Seamans, James D. Seamans, Jr., Michael Seamans, Michael Rogers, Joshua Rogers, Matthew Seamans, Andrew W. Seamans, James Rubino, Jr., Eric Rubino, and Lance Giessinger; and four granddaughters Janet Straub Ofano, Angela Rogers, Katie Seamans, and Gina Rubino McCracken; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by two brothers John H. Levett, and James E. Levett; two sisters Ruth Balant and Betty Levett; and a beloved grandson, Nicholas S. Seamans.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home this evening (Monday) from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (November 6, 2012) at 10am at the Funeral Home. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church will officiate.
Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
