Benjamin Carey Litteer
Rensselaer, NY Benjamin Carey Litteer, 34, of Rensselaer, passed away Thursday (March 1, 2012) in Albany Memorial Hospital.
Born September 5, 1977 in Rochester, NY he was the son of Carey Litteer and Marjorie Robinson McIntosh. For the past seventeen years he had been enjoying life while living happily with the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Jennifer Bossard.
Benjamin and his family moved to Olean in 1985 from Rochester where he graduated from Olean High School in 1995. He attended St. Bonaventure University for one year as a recipient of the Enchanted Mountain Scholarship and later he received an Associate of Applied Sciences degree from Alfred State College. He then served as an adjunct professor there for one full academic year and in 2003 he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Arts College in San Francisco. His first employment began in Irvine, California where his love of video electronics gave him the joy of working as a video game artist for Papaya Studio from 2005 to 2007. Along with Jennifer he moved back to New York State in 2007 and continued in the video game production business as an environmental artist with Vicarious Visions in Albany. Benjamin's co-workers and associates at that company frequently expressed their respect and gratitude not only for his technical and artistic contributions, but also for his personal counsel and leadership.
Together with Jennifer he shared many interests including his passion for video games where he was a student of and avid collector of game technology, both new and old. In addition, all knew him as a serious Star Trek fan and a fan of movies and comedy. He enjoyed learning to cook and along with Jennifer he enjoyed sightseeing and traveling, including a trip to Japan.
Surviving in addition to Jennifer are his mother Marjorie (James) McIntosh of Olean; his father Carey (Cynthia) Litteer of Hinsdale; a sister Kimberly (John) Light of Olean; maternal grandmother Frances Riley of Waynesboro, TN; paternal grandmother Helen Litteer of Henrietta; Jennifer's beloved parents William and Kinuko Bossard of Olean and their daughter Janet Bossard of Los Angeles, CA and many cousins.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from noon to 2pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be private with John Robinson, uncle to Benjamin, to officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, West Sparta.
Cards of sympathy may be directed to Jennifer Bossard, 119 S. Clinton St. Olean, NY 14760. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Sparta Methodist Church, P. O. Box 671, Dansville, NY 14437 for the development of the Oaklawn Cemetery (in memory of Benjamin Carey Litteer).
