George F. "Pete" Peterson
Allegany, NY-- George F. "Pete" Peterson, a former resident of the Four Mile Rd. died Monday (December 19, 2011) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
Born May 4, 1933 in Allegany, NY he was the son of Walter and Velma Osterstuck Peterson. On July 1, 1955 in Allegany he married the former Marylou Thurston who survives.
Mr. Peterson was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War. He had been employed by the Cattaraugus County Highway Department in Allegany until his retirement in 1988.
He was a life member of the Allegany Fire Department, the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892 and the Salamanca American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535. He was well known as a driver at the Olean and Cuba Raceways and he loved roller skating at both the Bradford and Cuba Roller Rinks. Along with his son he regularly assisted with preparing the Olean Girls Softball field for play each season. He loved his children and grandchildren and avidly loved camping and hunting with them.
Surviving are three children Dennis (Cindy) Peterson of Olean, Lisa (Steve) Peterson of Franklinville and David (Danielle) Peterson of Fremont, New Hampshire; eight grandchildren Eric, Brandi, Aaron, Nicholas, Brent, Curtis, Tyler and Micah; three great grandchildren Hannah, Landon and Kaeden; one sister Dorothy (Richard) Grimes of Franklinville; a sister-in-law Helen Peterson of Rochester; a son-in-law David Fox of Limestone and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother Melvin Peterson of Rochester and a great grandson Cameron Jason Peters of Limestone.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Thursday from 6-8pm and on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (December 24, 2011) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery with full military services being accorded at the grave by the ritual team of the Allegany American Legion.
Memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department, the Limestone Fire Department or to the Allegany American Legion.
