Please share a memory of Jeffrey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dr. Jeffrey H. Miller Olean, NY—Dr. Jeffrey H. Miller of 225 N. 2nd St. died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 9, 1967 in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of Frederick and Elizabeth Dorrenbacher Miller. On July 22, 1995 at the St. Bonaventure Friary Chapel he married Joanne Greer who survives. Dr. Miller was a 1985 graduate of Allegany Central School. During the winters of his junior and senior years he attended the Mountain House School of Skiing in Lake Placid where he combined his academic pursuits along with training in winter sports, particularly skiing. After receiving a scholarship to Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, he graduated in 1990 with a BS in Biology and became a nationally ranked Alpine skier. His studies continued at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Heath Sciences in !DesMoine, Iowa where as a member of its National Honor Society he graduated cum laude. He accepted a two-year residency with the Harvard Medical School at Cambridge City Hospital in Cambridge, Mass. where he was a chief resident. During this time he volunteered his medical talent for a five- week rotation in Vilnius, Lithuania. Dr. Miller started his podiatry practice in 1996, associating with Dr. Richard Scott’s practice in Olean. He also served on the staff for Olean General Hospital. He particularly enjoyed providing podiatric care for the Lionel John Health Clinic on the Seneca Nation in Salamanca. It is one example of how his genuine interest in others, combined with his passion for his profession, combined to provide him with an opportunity to meet and care for the many friends he met in life. His great passion for life extended not only to his career in podiatry, but into his formerly mentioned winter sports prowess where he was most recently coaching ski racing at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, to his love of hunting, deep sea fishing, gardening and growing flowers, and traveling. He was an avid competitive bike-racing enthusiast and he played ice hockey in the Olean area recreation league. His passion for activity extended to his home life. He immersed himself in restoring his family home and his greatest joy was in being an involved husband and father. Dr. Miller was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and was involved in professional associations such as having served as secretary for the Western New York Podiatric Association. He was also board-certified in podiatric medicine and surgery. He had authored scientific studies which were published in podiatric literature. He was a member of the American Podiatric Association. He was a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Surviving besides his wife are his parents of Allegany; 3 children Maisie Miller, Madeline Miller and Jeffrey Miller; 1 brother Scott “Bo” Miller of Allegany and 1 sister Amy (Dan) Lowry of Allegany and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Sunday from noon until 2pm and from 5 until 7 pm at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 West State Rd. Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday (March 10, 2003) at 11:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Roswell Park Alliance Fund C/O For Brain Tumor Research PO Box 631 Buffalo, NY 14240.
