Anthony J. "Tony" Bello, Sr.
Olean, NY Anthony J. "Tony" Bello, Sr., 84, of 578 Fountain St. died Monday (December 12, 2011) shortly after admission to the Olean General Hospital.
Born January 27, 1927 in Meadville, PA he was the son of Pietro and Vita Cappellino Bello. On August 3, 1949 in St. John's Church in Olean he married Elaine L. Hamilton who survives.
Mr. Bello was a graduate of Olean High School and was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1949. He was first employed by the former Daystrom Furniture Co. and later for Dresser Rand for thirty one years prior to his retirement in 1989. He then worked as a bus driver for Laidlaw Co. for five years and also for the YMCA for two years.
He enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas time at home with his family where his love of building things included many Christmas decorations. He was a member of the Southern Tier Aeronautical Radio Society (STARS) and he loved flying model airplanes. His biggest love besides his family was his dog "Taco".
Surviving besides his wife are five children Kathy (Bill) James of Olean, Tony Bello, Jr. of Olean, Susan (Edward) Mikolajczyk of Olean, Peter (Kathy) Bello of Ischua and Teresa (Terry) Leonard of Franklinville; thirteen grandchildren Tessy Killian, Edward Lowe, Elaina Wind, Karen, Wilder, Jennifer Bello, Lisa Bello, Jo Ann Bello, Jeremy Mikolajczyk, Luke Mikolajczyk, Joey Bello, Kristy Hoffman, Nathan Hoffman and Nickolas Hoffman; one brother Jasper (Rose) Bello of Phoenix, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers Joseph Bello, James Bello and Sam Bello and one sister Louise V. Labella.
There will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held Thursday (December 15, 2011) at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean. Rev. Robert Goode will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
