Obituary of Esther Roberts

Esther E. Roberts "Dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother" Hinsdale, NY Esther E. Roberts of 3221 Jollytown Rd. died Monday (October 10, 2011) at the Olean General Hospital after a short illness. Born October 23, 1924 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Raymond and Pearl Shay Luzier. On August 4, 1945 in Olean she married Bruce Roberts who predeceased her January 12, 1987. Mrs. Roberts was an honors graduate of Olean High School and had been a longtime resident of the Wellsville area. For many years she was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Mary's Nursing Home in Wellsville and in retirement volunteered as a longtime bookkeeper for ECHO and Meals on Wheels. She was a longtime member of the former Emmanuel Baptist Church in Wellsville and the Hinsdale Guys and Gals. She enjoyed the friendships she made as a volunteer for ECHO and was a longtime supporter of the Olean Community Theatre. She had a lifelong love of bird watching and flower gardening. Surviving are four children Kenneth (Charlotte) Roberts of Hinsdale, Diane (George) Wickes of Rochester, David (Nancy) Roberts of Tolland, CT and Barry Roberts of Pittsford; twelve grandchildren Christopher (Kim) Roberts of Howell, NJ, Jason (Staci) Roberts of Alexander, Jolene (William) Sawvel of Sterling, VA, Michelle (Keith) Kane of Greece, Bryan Wickes of New Milford, CT, Lucas Wickes of Rochester, Dillon Roberts of Tolland, CT , Lucia Roberts of Hartford, CT, Cassandra Roberts of Pittsford, Natalie Roberts of Pittsford , Genevieve Roberts of Pittsford and Nathaniel Roberts of Pittsford; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister Bernice (Betty) Underwood of Olean and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by one sister Anna Kelly; three brothers Raymond Luzier, Donald Luzier and Joseph Luzier and a daughter-in-law Hanna Roberts on November 1, 2001. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (October 15, 2011) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Glenn Treaster will officiate. Burial will be next to her husband in Allegany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Olean Community Theatre PO Box 100 Olean, NY 14760 or to the Hinsdale Fire Department.
